To give you a little perspective on this achievement, consider that Forbes and SHOOK Research used online surveys, telephone interviews, and in-person interviews to winnow a field of more than 27,000 advisors down to the Top 100 in each state.

Forbes’ rigorous ranking, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria learned through telephone, virtual and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data such as revenue trends and assets under management. 

Basic requirements an advisor must meet to make the first cut include:

• 7 years as an advisor, with a minimum 1 year at their current firm
• Advisor must be recommended, and nominated, by their firm
• Completion of online survey
• Business that is conducted with individuals is evaluated
• Acceptable compliance record

From there, SHOOK evaluates quantitative factors including:

• Weightings assigned for both revenue and production data
• Assets under management—and quality of those assets
• Client-related data, such as retention

Next, qualitative factors are scrutinized, including:

• Telephone, virtual, and in-person meetings with advisors 
• Advisors that exhibit “best practices” within their practices and approach to working with clients
• Compliance records
